Cattleman’s leader says labeling important

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Burger King, the fifth largest fast food chain is adding a plant based alternative burger. They’ve announced they’ll be selling what’s called the Impossible Whopper. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Jodie Anderson says its important consumers know what they are getting with any labeled product.

She says there needs to be national meat labeling regulations put in place and having the USDA handle most of that is preferable to relying on FDA or some other federal agency.

Anderson says beef that’s produced from an animal can compete well with any plant based or lab grown product so there are no major worries with Burger King’s decision.

Impossible Meats had its own problems last month when there was a recall on their plant-based product sent to California restaurants that showed up with plastic in it.
