Legislators will look at coronavirus issues on final day of session

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota legislators are supposed to gather in Pierre on Monday for the final day of the 2020 session.

It was set up as veto day, to decide on any bills rejected by Governor Kristi Noem but will now be much more than that.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says they have been briefed by the Governor on the financial problems facing the state from the coronavirus outbreak.

Hunhoff, a member of the Joint Appropriations Committee, says they talked about possible impacts as they put the budget together in the final days of the main run.

Hunhoff says she believes they can make some short term decisions.

There are still questions on where and how the legislature will meet in the face of the continuing COVID-19 outbreak.
