Man arrested after counterfeit bill passed in Spearfish

SPEARFISH, S.D. (KBHB) – Authorities have arrested a man on theft and forgery charges after a counterfeit $100 bill was passed at a Spearfish convenience store.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says authorities responded to the Valley Corner in Spearfish last week after reports of a $100 bill that was used.

After an investigation, it was determined similar bills had been passed in Pennington, Meade and Butte Counties.

Authorities got a break in the case, and say a search warrant was obtained for a residence on Evans Lane in Spearfish. Inside the home law enforcement found several items of evidence that are consistent with producing counterfeit currency.  Authorities also found methamphetamine, fake or altered I.D.’s and additional counterfeit currency.

Law enforcement arrested 34-year-old Tyler J. Andrews of Piedmont in connection with the investigation. He was arrested for outstanding warrants to include insufficient funds check, identity theft, forgery and parole violation.

Andrews is being held in the Lawrence County Jail with no bond.
