Miller Native Earns Gatorade SD Volleyball Player-of-the-Year Honor

Kadye Fernholz has been named the Gatorade South Dakota Volleyball Player of the Year and is now part of a 30+ year legacy that includes past winners such as Peyton Manning, Abby Wambach, Karl-Anthony Towns, Derek Jeter and many other sports icons! The Gatorade Player of the Year program is proud to recognize the nation’s most elite high school athletes for not only athletic excellence, but also for high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.

Gatorade has fueled athletes for a half-century and knows the positive impact sports can have on youth, including improvements in school, health, emotional well-being and future career success. However, youth participation in sports has been on a decline, largely due to a lack of resources and limited access to athletic programs. Gatorade Play It Forward empowers Gatorade Player of the Year athletes to give back to sports programs in their communities to help the next generation reap the benefits of sport.

You can help our efforts by encouraging Kadye to make their charity selection! Kadye can choose any local sports charity or sport association in your community that provides access to sport for youth athletes. Or, she can pick one of our four national charities to support. All she needs to do is visit playeroftheyear.gatorade.com/winnersaccess by January 27th, 2020 and submit an organization. Once an organization is submitted, Kadye will also have the opportunity to submit an essay to nominate the organization for an additional $10,000 Spotlight Grant.
