Pierre woman arrested after three-county pursuit

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – A 26 year-old Pierre woman is arrested Friday after leading law enforcement on a three county vehicle pursuit. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says Central South Dakota Communications dispatched a traffic complaint to Pierre police around 6:40 p.m.

Officers eventually located the reported vehicle and noticed it had a brake light that wasn’t working. As police attempted to pull the vehicle over, it failed to yield to officers then fled. The driver, identified as Kelsey Oka, led law enforcement through Pierre, Fort Pierre then south down U-S Highway 83. Oka’s vehicle came to a stop 15 miles south of Fort Pierre, just over the Stanley/Lyman County border into Lyman County after tire spikes had been deployed.

Officers with the Pierre Police Department, Hughes County and Stanley County Sheriff’s Offices assisted in bringing Oka into custody. She was transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges of Aggravated Eluding, Driving Under the Influence, Speeding, Stop Lamps Required, Unsafe Lane Change, Failure to Obey Traffic Signals, Stop Sign Violation and No Child Restraint. Walz says additional charges may be pending.
