Regents looking at $91 million for university projects

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The South Dakota Board of Regents is discussing a wish list of up to $91 million dollars for high priority projects at the six state university campuses.

The School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City is asking for $49 million for a new Mineral Industries Building. SDSU is asking for over $20 million for a bioprocessing plant and USD wants $10 million for a health science building.

Regents President Kevin Schieffer says the costs are spread across a lot of students.

Schieffer says investments in higher education show a good return.

Schieffer says they know it will be a tough sell to many legislators.

The Regents will formalize their budget requests at their fall meetings.
