Who had this brilliant idea? I can come up with quite a few reasons why cell phones shouldn’t be banned while driving but apparently the Aberdeen City Council needs to consider it. I’m pretty sure babies are a distraction, when are you going to tell parents they can’t take their kids in the car? More often than not if I”m on the phone and lose focus on anything it’s my speed and I actually slow down. I’m still looking up and around for animals, vehicles, pedestrians and everything else.
I don’t think they should ban the use of cell phones while driving because you’re punishing everyone for something many people can handle. Plus for me personally it’s dialing that distracts me, once I’m on the phone I can focus on the road and talk, it’s the same as having a passenger but less distracting yet!
Also how do you enforce it when people are constantly coming to town that don’t know the law? Good luck with that! I think I heard the idea once of trying age restrictions, again good luck. You can’t tell when someone is 15 or 23 half the time anymore so good luck pulling someone over because they’re on their phone and look young. What a great concept.
Don’t ban the use of cell phones behind the wheel, but when they are the cause of careless driving, pull them over, give them a careless driving ticket, or if it’s the cause of an accident then ticket them for careless driving, that’s what it is if you can’t handle it.
What’s next banning changing stations on the radio because you have to look at the dial (or buttons)?
Anyways, let us know your thought on the matter, comment here or on the Poll of the Week comments, also vote on the Poll of the Week! Check that out weekly too so we can see how we all feel about things.

If it were a contest for the worst feeling in the world, I’d vote for hitting your head on a sharp object. Yep, I smoked my head on the corner of a table earlier when I was picking up the wheel for the computer chair that I’m sitting on because it fell off and tried to roll me over backwards when I tipped back. This wasn’t a casual bump, it was like I was victoriously pulling up to admire my work of fixing the chair when BAM! Out of a nowhere a table corner drills me right in the top of the cranium. I drop to the ground just about in tears, with that infamous feeling of a sharp blow to the head when I realize there are people around, no one saw it, so I can recover. I fight back the tears, back away from the table shooting it a death glare and stand up right. It was a successful head bashing event without being noticed.
I’m quite experienced at this hitting my head on objects. Every time I go to my buddy’s house he has a hood or whatever over his stove and it ever so stupidly sticks out about a foot from the edge of the counter. Well I ALWAYS forget it’s there and every time I see something delicious on his counter that I want to secretly devour I walk over there with that glow in my eye and 99.44% of the time hit my head right square on the corner of the hood. This of course takes the glow of desire out of my eye and turns it into a tear or two. They then laugh at me and point out the fact that it happens every time.
Also I’m told that when I was a wee little lad I’d hit my head on everything, tables, counter tops, floors in fits of rage, everything! My parents would cringe in pain because it hurt so bad to see they couldn’t believe I’d survive, I’d just grab my head, back up and say, “Ouch” while making a pouty face. Then I’d see a hot dog on the counter and be happy again. Apparently all those blows to the head added up and now I’m the way I am.

Is it just me or do a lot of people get irritated by characteristics that you more than likely have at some point in time? One of the things that irritates me the worst is bad drivers. I understand I’m not great, but I absolutely hate (and have said this tons of times before) when a driver feels a need to ride my ass because I’m not going ten miles an hour over the speed limit or more. If someone comes flying up and gets right on my back bumper, odds are they’re getting a brake check or a slow down. Every time I drive around and see people in a hurry I actually do my best to slow them down.
Today I went to get some food and someone came flying up on me, well I was behind another vehicle so even if I wanted to go faster, I couldn’t, but this guy rides right up on me then sees down the street a red light, so he quick turns down a street and goes over a block then down. I took the way I intended including the red light and saw him crossing the street ahead of me, so I guess sadly his impatience paid off.
Then I’m pumping my gas when I noticed a vehicle that must have been stuck behind someone slow, because as soon as they could get away from them there was no one in sight of them to slow them more so they dropped the hammer and accelerated off as if to prove, “Look I can speed!” But all it said to me is “Look I’m an idiot and deserve an accident or at least a ticket!” I don’t really wish for an accident because I’d feel bad for the second vehicle that’d more than likely be involved. I’d settle for them losing control and going in the ditch, maybe get a couple flat tires. I wish no bodily harm or anything, just something to make them realize just how stupid they are.
Well now that I’ve vented, I’m off, Rusty.

So last week I mentioned how excited I was for new music Tuesday, well I went to my favorite place to pick up new music only to be partially let down. They had the Senses Fail CD so I picked it up while I continued looking for the Rise Against one to later find out they were sold out!! I was heartbroken, I’d been looking forward to that CD for a while and just had my dreams crushed. I mean that meant I had to wait at least one maybe two more days before I’d get it!!! So I went back Thursday at lunch and they had one copy out so I grabbed that. Made me feel a little better knowing if someone else went in that day to pick it up, I got to crush their dreams by grabbing the last copy.
Well at work this year I was convinced to try the Eagle’s NFL picks. Yep, I ‘ve got the book sitting on my desk so I can’t miss it, but yet I manage to forget to do them every week!! I turned in the first week and haven’t done it since. The second week I filled out and put in my coat pocket, that was as far as it got. So I’m pretty sure I don’t have much of a chance at winning the overall picks for the season, which was the case to begin with. I do picks online and remember every Sunday morning (which might be a problem when Thursday night games start) and I’m in 47 out of 50 people I think, yeah I rock!
I also do fantasy football online with a group of us here at work and a couple outsiders (I might slightly be addicted to NFL) and well I don’t mean to brag but I was in first place as of last week with a 4-1 record. Well I was paired up against the last place team with a 1-4 record whom happens to be one of my buddies from outside of work. He told me he could guarantee I’d win, I told him I’m never confident. Yep he won, I had 88 points on my bench!!! We had a pathetic week and my bench outscroed both of our teams that we actually played. Just another example of how much I rock (I might also note that I should never listen to experts again, no matter how good they think the Ravens defense is, I shouldn’t have played them and I should have played my Colts Defense, Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, probably would have helped).
However on a lighter note from NFL action this weekend, the Chiefs didn’t lose! Is it bad that I always look at the bye week as a win for the Chiefs? I just hope when they come off their bye week this year they don’t lose the rest of the games like they did last year, that was pretty pathetic!
Well tomorrow is of course another new music Tuesday but I personally don’t know of any CD’s worth going out of my way to pick up, unless of course you want the New Kids on the Block Christmas CD that comes out tomorrow, which I’m sure you do.
On that note, I’m out, Rusty.

I’m pretty excited for a couple of CD releases tomorrow, odds are they’re bands you don’t know but maybe you do or maybe you’d like them.
The first is Rise Against, I’ve played the first single off their new CD a couple times in the Rev It Up and Rock Show. The song is Re-Education (Through Labor) and it comes off the new CD “Appeal to Reason” which comes out tomorrow. This is their fourth full length release, I think I have three of the four, and encourage you to check them out. www.myspace.com/riseagainst They’ll also be in Minneapolis November 18, a Tuesday. That’s a show I’d like to go to but am not sure of just yet.
The other CD that comes out tomorrow is from the band Senses Fail which I haven’t featured any of their music on the show but I’m also a big fan of their work. The new CD is called “Life Is Not a Waiting Room” and you can hear quite a few songs off it, if not maybe the whole thing on their MySpace at www.myspace.com/sensesfail see what you think for yourself.
Both those CD’s are ones I’m personally looking forward to buying tomorrow, if I can afford it…..
Upcoming concerts of possible interest…
Crash Anthem - October 31 in Sioux Falls
Saving Abel, Shinedown, Avenged Sevenfold and Buckcherry - November 9 in Fargo
Puddle of Mudd with Ashes Divide and Red - November 25 in Fargo
Disturbed and Egypt Central - November 25 in Brookings
Mudvayne - November 29 in Minneapolis
There, it’s something for you, a little more info based today, Rusty
