Saints’ Softballers Go 1-3 v. Trojans Over the Weekend

FRIDAY

The Lady Saints fell just short of the come from behind win tonight dropping the game 3-5 to the Trojans.

Game one: Presentation 3 – Dakota State 5:

The Lady Saints would keep Dakota State in check for the first two innings.  Leadoff batter for the Trojans would be caught stealing as Krystle Schweers (SR/Perryville, MD) would apply the tag to take a runner off the base path.  Then be able to get the next two out leaving one Trojan runner on base.  The third inning the Lady Saints would not be able to find anything at the plate as they went three up, three down.  Bottom of the inning is when the Trojans would break the game open having five runs cross the plate on six hits and one error.  Both teams would see another two full scoreless innings.  The Lady Saints would answer with a run of their own in the sixth inning when Cortni Mendoza (SR/Brawley, CA) would score on the bunted ball by Krystle Schweers to bring the score to 1-5.  Top of the seventh inning the Lady Saints would have a two-out rally after Cortni Mendoza would hit a stand-up triple to score Madison Brink (SO/Pierre, SD).  Cherie Malacas (JR/Lanai City, HI) would have a hard-hit double to left-center field scoring Cortni Mendoza.  Cortni Mendoza and Cherie Malacas would both go 2-4 on the night with one RBI each.

 

SATURDAY

Lady Saints go one for three on the afternoon, dropping game one 4-5, winning game two 3-2 on a go-ahead home run by Maranda McLaren (JR/Chancellor, SD).  Dropping the third game of the afternoon 1-7.

 

Game One: Presentation 4 – Dakota State 5:

The Lady Saints would get Trojans in a three up three down in the first inning.   The second inning the Lady Saints would allow one run in the second inning after having a missed catch by first basemen Jadwyn Parrish (SO/Oregon City, OR).  The Lady Saints would score a single run in the fourth and fifth inning. To go up on the Trojans 2-1.  Bottom of the fifth inning the Trojans would break the game open scoring four runs on five hits.  Both teams would have a scoreless six inning.  The Lady Saints would make a seventh-inning run that started with Cherie Malacas (JR/Lanai City, HI) doubling to left field to start the inning.  Krystle Schweers (SR/Perryville, MD) would single to shallow right allowing Cherie to score on the hit.  Celia Cerezo (JR/Chino Hills, CA) would single down the right-field line moving Krystle to third base. Darrian Gibson (JR/Box Elder, SD) would double into left-center field allowing Krystle to trot home scoring the final run of the game.  Lady Saints would drop game one of the afternoon 4-5.

Game Two: Presentation 3 – Dakota State 2:

The Lady Saints would go down early after Lopez for the Trojans would hit a sacrifice fly to right-center allowing one run to cross the plate before the Lady Saints would be able to find the third out of the inning.  Top of the second inning the Lady Saints would answer back with two runs of their own.  Sierra Kilmer (FR/Vancouver, WA) would reach first on a walk then Celia Cerezo would reach after being hit by a pitch.  Sierra would be out at third on a fielder’s choice.  Jadwyn Parrish would single to left-center field allowing Celia Cerezo to score and advancing Darrian Gibson to third on the hit.  Maranda McLaren would ground out to short and Darrian would be safe at home on the throw from the Trojans shortstop. Lady Saints would let the tying run across the plate in the bottom of the second inning on a double down the right-field line.  Both teams would see four scoreless innings of play before Maranda McLaren would hit her first home run of the season on the first pitch she saw.  Lady Saints would take game two of the afternoon 3-2.

Game Three: Presentation 1 – Dakota State 7:

In game three the Lady Saints would fall behind early going down 0-5 after only two innings of play. Both teams would have a scoreless third and fourth inning.  Lady Saints would conceive another two runs in the fifth inning falling behind 0-7.  Jadwyn Parrish would lead things off in the sixth inning with a stand up double to shallow left field.  Haylie Vallery (SO/Nacogdoches, TX) would come in and pinch run for Jadwyn.  Haylie would move to third on the batted ball by Bibiana Villeda (SO/Lake Elsinore, CA) as she grounded out to the Trojans first basemen.  Cortni Mendoza (SR/Brawley, CA) would single down the left-field line allowing Haylie to score the lone run of game three.  Lady Saints would drop the last game of the afternoon 1-7 to Dakota State.

Looking Ahead –The Lady Saints are back in action on Wednesday, April 17thfor a doubleheader in the PC Dome against the University of Jamestown.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm with a game two to follow after.  The Lady Saints will then travel to Omaha, Nebraska for a four-game series.  Game one on the 19this set at 4:00 pm with game two to follow.  The first game on the 20this set for a 12:00 pm first pitch.
