Saints Take Three Of Four From Comets

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (PCSaints.com) – The PC baseball team spilt Friday’s double-header against the Comets of Mayville State to earn the 3-1 series win – the first time in program history that the Saints took a series from the Comets. The Saints fell 7-3 in game one but answered back with a 4-1 victory in the final game to improve to 13-10 overall and a 6-2 mark in the North Star, while the Comets move to 7-16 overall and 1-7 in NSAA action.

Game One: Presentation College 3, Mayville State University 7

Mayville State fired up the offense as they took a 4-0 lead after the first four innings. PC cut the Comet lead down by one after Jace Wyatt (SR/Show Low, AZ) singled on a fly ball to left field to bring home Jesse Spangler (SR/Holbrook, AZ) who tripled on the previous at-bat. After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, the Comets tagged on another run to push the lead back up to four. The Saints answered with a two-run inning to pull within two. Angel Faras (SO/Tuscon, AZ) started the inning with a lead-off walk and was brought home by a double by Jesse Spangler. The final run came off the bat of Wyatt as he singled to center field to bring home Spangler. However, the Comet offense stayed hot and added the final two runs of the game for either side to take the 7-3 victory. With the win, the Comets snapped their eight game losing streak.

Starting pitcher Joey Wollman (JR/Aberdeen, SD) suffered the loss as he gave up four runs off nine hits in three and two-thirds innings pitched. Jesse Spangler and CJ Canfield(JR/Rochester, WA) entered the game in relief to close out the final five innings.

Offensively, the Saints racked up nine hits in the loss. Jace Wyatt led the team going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Jesse Spangler and Johnny Radomskiy (JR/Chino Hills, CA) rounded out the Saints with multiple hits with two. The final two hits came off the bats of Anthony Guzman (SR/Hanford, CA) and Kyle Angielski (SO/Regina, SK, CAN).

Game Two: Presentation College 4, Mayville State University 1

The Saints claimed the series win as they strung together five hits for the 4-1 victory in the final game of the series. The Saints started the scoring in the third inning after a double by Zane Hunt (JR/San Tan Valley, AZ) and a Jace Wyatt walk for the early 2-0 lead. The Saints doubled their lead up to four in the fifth after an RBI single by Zane Hunt and a sacrifice fly by Jace Wyatt to bring home Lukas Symonds (JR/Canberra, AUS) and Zane Hunt. Starting pitcher BJ Wyche (FR/Las Vegas, NV) continued to dominate on the mound for the Saints as he held the Comet offense scoreless until the sixth inning as MSU’s Senden homered over the center field fence on a 0-1 count. CJ Canfield entered the game in the final inning and shut down the Comet offense to earn the save.

Of the team’s five hits, Zane Hunt and Trent Williams (FR/Show Low, AZ) led the Saints going 2-for-3 at the plate. Kyle Angielski rounded out the final hit in the 4-1 win. BJ Wyche earned the win for the Saints on the mound as he went six innings while giving up one run (1ER). Wyche leads the North Star Conference with an overall 1.40 ERA and ranks 1st in the NAIA allowing four earned runs.
