South Dakota becomes member of Gigawatt Club

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The State of South Dakota recently hit a milestone of sorts by becoming the newest member of the “Gigawatt Club.” The state is now producing 1,019 megawatts of electricity from wind power.

Tom Paulson, the state outreach coordinator for the “Clean Grid Alliance” says the state has more wind power in the pipeline.

Paulson says the state has the potential for much more wind power production.

Paulson says the state also supports a growing wind power manufacturing base.

Over two billion dollars has been spent on building wind power projects so far in the state. This all released during the third annual “American Wind Week.”
