Wet conditions lead to grown out grasslands and pastures

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – After a very wet spring and summer, grasslands and pastures have grown out rapidly.

Yankton Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles says they are watching as all that grass dies out and dries out.

Nickles says there haven’t been any grass fires…..yet.

Nickles says grass fires in cold weather can be challenging.

There have been red flag warnings in western areas of South Dakota and Nebraska as the grass dries down and winds pick up.
