Daryl J. Steiner was born July 4, 1929 on the family farm near Lake City, SD to Louie and Hildegarde (Opitz) Steiner. He attended country school a couple miles from the farm, and later on attended school in Lake City. Growing up he began helping on the farm and dedicated the next couple decades operating the farm. Along with farming he raised cattle and pigs. But most of all during his farming career he loved raising flax and admiring the flax fields.

On November 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Gollnick. They were blessed with nine children and made their home on a farm near Clear Lake, north of Eden. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

When his son Mark and grandson Steven were  ready to take their role in the farm operations, he stepped back and began a new career doing road construction and working with heavy machinery. He spent many hours on the Caterpillar and covered many miles all around the surrounding counties. He enjoyed working, and was a hard worker, so he continued to work until right before his 90th birthday.

He had an appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed trapping, fishing and was a very good ice fisherman. In his down time he liked watching Gunsmoke and other westerns. He was a gifted harmonica player and liked listening to Molly B Polka Party. Over the years he collected many old bottles and was always on the lookout for new rocks to collect. He especially loved spending time with grandkids and trips out to the farm to offer his advice on farming to his son and grandsons. In his later years he looked forward to his daily outings to Club Eden for lunch and back later for afternoon coffee. He was a dear friend to many and will be deeply missed.

Daryl passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Strand-Kjorsvig in Roslyn, at the age of 96.
