Dakota State Softball Player Earns Spot on All-Region Squad

LOUISVILLE, KY (PlayNorthStar.com) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Friday afternoon the 147 student-athletes from 62 schools who comprise the 2022 NFCA NAIA All-Region teams. Michelle Evdos of Dakota State (SD) was voted to Region III First Team Designated Player/Utility/Non-Pitcher position.

NAIA Region III teams included Dakota State, North Star Athletic Association’s fellow Bellevue (NE), Oklahoma City (ranked No. 2 in the final NAIA softball coaches’ poll), Midland (NE), Southern Oregon (ranked No. 8 in NAIA), Mount Marty (SD), Oklahoma Wesleyan, Vanguard (CA), Friends (KS), St. Katherine (CA), and College of Idaho.

The awards honor student-athletes from the Association’s six regions with selections to one of two teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region. All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the two NFCA NAIA All-America squads, which will be announced on June 7.

The NFCA is the professional organization for fastpitch softball coaches. Known for its highly regarded All-Region and All-America awards, the NFCA also educates and supports softball coaches on a varsity of different levels: from podcasts to a comprehensive drills database, to in-person events and a national convention.

Evdos, a freshman from Parker, CO, led the team with 67 hits, 20 doubles, and 43 runs batted in (RBIs). She was .462 at the plate (67-of-145) and scored 31 times. She added four home runs, two triples, and registered a team-leading .710 slugging percentage. Evdos reached on base by a walk 18 times and recorded an on-base percentage of .524.

Evdos produced the second most hits and RBIs in a single season in the Trojan softball record book. She posted the third best single season in both batting average and doubles. She tied for third most single season total bases with 103 (tied with Xitlali Lopez in 2018). Evdos’ slugging percentage is the fourth best single season in the DSU softball record book.

Evdos was named to the North Star Athletic Association Softball First Team All-Conference designated player. She earned the league’s Player-of-the-Week honor during the season for the Trojans.

Michelle is the daughter of George and Lisa Evdos. She is a freshman cyber operations major at Dakota State University.

Dakota State finished its 2022 campaign with an overall record of 19-26 and 13-10 record in the North Star conference. The Trojans tied for most NSAA conference victories with the 2018 squad and produced the highest place finisher in the conference standings. DSU also secured a home field winning record at Thue Field for the first time in more 10 years (10 victories).
