Gene Boone, 74

Britton, SD: The memorial visitation for Gene H. Boone will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Olson Funeral Chapel in Britton.

 

Gene Harold Boone passed away on February 14, 2024 at the age of 74.  He was born June 11, 1949 to Harold and Madeline (Olson) Boone. Family knew him by “Snork” and friends called him “Boone.”

 

Gene graduated from Britton Public School in 1967.  Following graduation he attended Wahpeton School of Science.  He enlisted in the United States Army and spent 2 years and 2 months overseas then transferred to the Army Reserves.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  For about a year he lived in Denver, CO and then attended SDSU.  After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, his love for learning led him to continue classes while being an assistant professor at SDSU.  He then moved to Custer where he did surveying and solar work.

 

A few years later he moved to Erie, Colorado where he worked at a water treatment plant for a number of years.  Then he moved back to the Black Hills area until his passing.  Because of health issues he moved to the Michael Fitzgerald Veterans Home in Hot Springs. He became critically ill in December  2023 and was admitted to the Rapid City Monument Hospital until middle of January when he was transferred to Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital and he passed away there February 14, 2024.

 

He was a kindhearted, smart man who would literally give the shirt off his back for anyone in need.  He is sorely missed by his family and friends.

 

He is survived by his sister, Julie (Mick) Docter and their two children, Kristal Docter and Jordan (Jessica) Docter and their sons Alex and Evan; his sister, Patty (Everett) Swenson and their two daughters, Alahna (David) Johnson and their sons, Everett John and Dawson (Bailey) Johnson and son Hayes, and Jolie (Gary) Tostenson and their children Garytt and Alyssa Niesen Johnson and her son Owen; and his uncle Daniel (Shirley) Boone and their family.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents Harold and Madeline Boone; his grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
