SUNDAY

NCAA Central Region Championship Match

(#5) SCSU

(#2) CSP 3-2 (24-26, 17-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-13)

  • CSP won their 12th Central Region Title while playing in their 7th-straight Title Match & 18th in 19 seasons. It was their 1st Regional Crown since 2017 when they claimed their 9th National Title. They had lost the last three Regional Finals contests (no season in ’20). All-time, CSP improved to 32-3 against SCSU & 2-1 this season (lost in NSIC Tourney Title Match). CSP knocked SCSU out of the NCAA Tourney last season in the 1st round – the only other time they’ve met in the tourney. The Huskies were trying to get back to the Elite 8 for the 1st time since ’96. The Golden Bears now move on to Seattle for the Elite 8.
  • After SCSU won the 1st two sets, CSP battled back to force a 5th. The final game was an all-time classic. Concordia looked like they could pull away & cruise to victory as they built a 7-3 lead & the Huskies used their 2nd & final timeout of the set. SCSU then did a 180 & ran off eight-straight points on a great serving run by Kenzie Foley to grab an 11-7 lead! Her great serving run ended w/ a service error right after an unsuccessful challenge by the Golden Bears delayed play. CSP then went on a six-point run to grab a 13-11 advantage, thanks in part to a successful challenge at 11-all that kept things going CSP’s way. After it hit 13-11 for CSP, St. Cloud was able to sideout to get within a point, but the squads just traded points until CSP took it, 15-13.
  • CSP – Jasmine Mulvihill 13K, 17d, 5B; Katie Mattson 11K (.318), 1B; Sophia Andersen 11K, 1B; Emma Schmidt 11K, 2SA; Kennedy Brady 10K (.429), 7B; Teagan Starkey 60a, 14d, 2K, 2B; Ellie Sieling 17d, 3SA
  • SCSU – Kenzie Foley 21K, 14d, 2B, 2SA; Linsey Rachel 13K, 12d, 1SA; Phebie Rossi 12K, 3B; Sam Zimmerman 10K (.348), 3B; Emma Berran 44a, 1B; Keely Kurschner 12d, 2SA
