ABERDEEN, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State Athletics is proud to announce the 2020-21 Sanford Health Endowed Scholarship recipients. The student-athletes honored must be an active member of their team and currently enrolled in a science based degree program.
The 2020-21 recipients include Zach Bohnenkamp, Jordan Menken, Olivia Rud, and Robert Vomacka. Sanford Health has been the exclusive sports medicine provider for Northern State University Athletics since 2015 and their generous support to NSU has included transformational scholarship dollars that have impacted countless students.
Zach Bohnenkamp is a junior defensive back from Tucson, Arizona. He stepped into a starting role in 2019, recording 36 tackles and a team high four interceptions. Bohnenkamp is majoring in Biology at NSU and looks to pursue a career in anesthesiology. He holds a 3.7 GPA and is an NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence recipient in both football and track and field.
Jordan Menken is a senior on the track and field team from Custer, South Dakota. She holds the Northern State school record in the indoor shot put, throwing 14.11m. Menken is majoring in Biology with a certificate in Organisms and minors in Business and Health at NSU. She holds a 3.7 GPA and has career aspirations of working at a rehabilitation center for endangered animals. Specifically working with the reproduction and release of these animals, as well as bringing in injured animals to be released once they have recovered. Menken will travel to Africa in the summer of 2021 for an internship with an aquarium that focuses on conservation and rehabilitation of marine life.
Olivia Rud is a sophomore middle hitter on the Wolves volleyball squad from Madison, South Dakota. She appeared in 13 matches a season ago, notching a career high 8.0 blocks versus Wayne State. Rud is majoring in Biology at NSU and plans to attend Physician Assistant’s school upon completion of her degree. She holds a 4.0 GPA and is currently working on her honors thesis which studies the fight or flight response in emergency medical personnel (EMS). She will test salivary cortisol levels in the workers and compare their cortisol levels to non-EMS workers.
Robert Vomacka is a senior wide receiver out of Gregory, South Dakota. He appeared in ten games for the Wolves in 2019, recording over 170 yards receiving with one touchdown. Vomacka is a Biology major and Chemistry minor at Northern State and plans to attend medical school after graduating. He holds a 3.8 GPA and is an undergraduate research candidate and 2-time NSIC All-Academic honoree.
