The teams were able to escape the continued winter elements of the Midwest on Thursday night with a pair of games at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, however Northern State was unable to come away with a win. Minnesota State secured wins of 12-2 and 5-2 over the Wolves in the conference openers.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- An RBI double to center field put the Mavericks on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead in the contest
- Northern State tied the game at one in the top of the fourth inning as Jordan DeMarce hit a single up the middle to score Niko Pezonella who had walked earlier in the inning
- The Mavericks regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning with an RBI single to left field scoring one run and making it a 2-1 ball game
- After the Wolves went 3-up, 3-down in the top of the fifth inning, MSU took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth with seven runs and added another three in the sixth inning to make it 12-1
- Northern capped the scoring in game one with a run in the top of the seventh inning as Brent Hokeness reached base safely on a throwing error which allowed Jackson Meyer to score after being walked earlier in the inning
- In his fourth start of the season Michael Chevalier suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 4.0 innings while striking out seven batters
- Northern State scored their two runs off five hits and committed four errors defensively in the loss

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Northern State opened game two with a pair of singles to center field by Austin Portner and Karson Hesser, two at-bats later an RBI ground out by Reece Ragatz scored Portner from third to give the Wolves 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning
- Minnesota State was quick to respond and tied the game at one in the bottom half of the first inning, they would take the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-1
- A solo homerun by Connor Knecht to right-center field cut the Maverick lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth
- The two teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Minnesota State capped the scoring in game two with a 2-run homerun to left-center field
- In his third start of the season Zach Carolin suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 6.0 innings while striking out two batters
- Northern State scored their two runs off nine hits and did not commit an error defensively
