NSU Volleyball Team Sweeps Weekend as Coach Aldridge Moves Into Top Spot on Sidelines

  • Northern hit .374 in the win and held Minnesota Crookston to an .097 attack percentage
  • NSU notched a match high 45 kills, 44 assists, 46 digs, 11 aces, and six blocks
  • The Wolves were impressive in serve receive, giving up just one ace to the Golden Eagles
  • Two hitters notched double figure kills and an attack percentage above .300, while four Wolves recorded multiple blocks on defense
  • The win is the 223rd of head coach Brent Aldridge’s career, which ties former head coach Lisa Schriver for the most wins in Northern State history

  • In a defensive slugfest, WSC topped MSU in four sets. Wayne led in blocks 9-4, and the Mavs held a lead of ten digs (111-101)!

  • SMSU led 74-56 in digs and doubled up the Peacocks in attack %age (.255-.121) in a 4-set win. Meg Schmidt led the Mustangs w/ 20 kills, while Aberdeen’s Brooklyn Kusler racked up 11, tying her career-high for SMSU.

  • Sydney Lanoue piled up 20 kills w/ 17 digs & three aces to help UMD beat U-Mary in four

  • The Golden Bears held an 11-1 lead in blocks and hit .319 to defeat the Vikings

  • The Dragons finished w/ a 12-4 advantage in blocks, picking up a 5-set road win at BSU. Four players on each team had dbl-digit kills, and Moorhead had 13 aces to go w/ 10 service errors.

History was made for the Northern State University volleyball program on Saturday, as head coach Brent Aldridge became the all-time wins leader with a 4-set victory over Bemidji State. The win was the Wolves’ 18th of the season and the 224th of Aldridge’s career.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NSU hit .248 in the win and held BSU to a .181 attack percentage
  • Northern notched a match high 54 kills, 52 assists, 60 digs and 17 aces (season high)
  • Three Wolves recorded double figure digs led by Sally Gaul (16) and Madison Langlie was the leader on defense with 27 digs, as the lone Wolf in double digits

NEXT UP

The NSU VB squad finished 7th in the NSIC standings, securing a spot in the conference tourney at CSP’s place. The Wolves draw the 2nd seed & host Golden Bears on Friday at noon to start the tourney. The 6v3 match will follow as USF draws UMD. The evening session will see 5-seed SCSU take on 4-seed SMSU at 5p. Finally, day one concludes with the NSIC Regular Season Champs from Wayne battling Augustana. CSP earned the 2-seed over 3-seed UMD thanks to strength of schedule, as both teams went 17-3 in the NSIC.
