NSU Wrestling Ranked 17th in Preseason NWCA Poll

(NSUWolves.com) – The National Wrestling Coaches Association has released the 2022 Preseason Coaches’ Rankings with Northern State University coming in at No. 17 in NCAA Division II. In addition, three Wolves landed on the individual rankings in their respective weight classes.

Northern State tallied 24 team points in the poll and is joined by Super Region V and NSIC foes #2 St. Cloud State, #5 Augustana, #8 U-Mary, #13 Parkside, #18 Minnesota State, #24 Southwest Minnesota State, (RV) Upper Iowa, and (RV) Minot State.

The individually-ranked Wolves include Wyatt Turnquist, Treyton Cacek, and Cole Huss; Northern’s three national qualifiers from 2021-22. Turnquist comes it at #11 at 149 pounds, after going 20-5 a season ago and a perfect 9-0 in the NSIC. Cacek cracked into the 184 pound top-10 at #6, after finishing the year with an 11-8 record overall and 2-2 mark at the NCAA Championships. Huss is ranked at #3 at 197 pounds, following his All-American performance and fourth place finish a season ago.

The regular season opens for NCAA Division II Nov. 1, with the first regular season edition of the rankings slated for Dec. 2.
