Saints Pitching Struggles In Mitchell

Mitchell, SD (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation Saints finished their final nonconference series of the year tonight in Mitchell, S.D. against the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan University. In the first game of the night the Saints lost by a score of 1-9. In the night cap the Saints fell to the Tigers by a score of 7-17. The Saints are now 0-40 overall and 0-24 in the NSAA.

Game #1

The Saints got off to a good start with leadoff man Dawson Barson (JR/Logan, UT) reaching first base on a walk. Matthew Womack (SR/Houston, TX) got on base by an error advancing Barson. The next three Saints went down in order leaving two men on base in the first inning. The host Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning after two outs Louie Martinez (JR/Pueblo, CO) walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Cobi Woodfin (FR/Christoval, TX) then walked and Martinez made it third base on a passed ball. The Saints were not able to score a run in the second inning. In the second inning the Saints limited the Tigers to getting on baserunner on via an error. In the third inning the only offense was a single by Wolf’Don Thorson (SR/Bottineau, ND) in the inning. The Saints sat down the Tigers in order in the bottom of the third inning. After three innings the Tigers lead was five runs.

In the fourth inning Ethan Leech (SR/Casper, WY) walked to begin the inning. For the Saints there was a double play and a strike out to end the inning. In the fourth inning the Saints gave up a single walk to the Tigers. In the fifth inning after an out Dawson Barson was hit by a pitch. He then advanced all the way to third base on two passed balls. After another out for the Saints Evyn Booth (JR/Phoenix, AZ) walked to put runners on the corners. Wolf’Don Thorson helped himself out on the mound with a sinlge to score Barson and move Booth to second. The Saints could only get a single run on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. The Tigers added three runs in the fifth inning. Ethan Leech started the sixth inning off with a walk for the Saints. After an out Louie Martinez doubled to advance Leech to third base. Cobi Woodfin reached base on a fielder’s choice with Martinez advancing to third base. The Saints ended the inning on another fielder’s choice. The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the seventh inning the Saints went down in order. The final score of game one was Saints 1 Tigers 9.

Game #2

In game two of the night the Saints were the home team since the other two games of this series was lost to weather issues. The Saints limited the Tigers to a single hit in the first inning. After two outs to begin the home half of the first inning Evyn Booth walked. Wolf’Don Thorson then walked to advance Booth to second. Kolby Wagatsuma (FR/Pearl City, HI) then homered to give the Saints a three run homerun. There was another out to end the inning. In the second inning the Tigers answered back with two runs in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the inning the Saints went down in order. The Tigers in the third inning scored a single run. The Saints went down in order in the home half of the inning. The score was tied at three after three innings of play.

In the fourth inning the Tigers scored five runs. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Saints went down in order. Dakota Wesleyan scored nine runs in the fifth inning. Presentation went three up three down in the home half of the fifth inning. The Saints limited the Tigers to one walk in the sixth inning. Dawson Barson started the sixth of by reaching base being hit by a pitch. After an out Evyn Booth singled to advance Barson to second base. Cobi Woodfin doubled to score both Barson and Booth. Kolby Wagatsuma then doubled to score Woodfin. Wagatsuma reached third base on a passed ball. The three runs were all the Saints scored in sixth inning.

The Tigers were held scoreless in the seventh inning. The Saints in the seventh inning started off with Trevor Ball reaching first base on an error. Ball then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dawson Barson singled to keep the inning alive and advance Ball to third base. Matthew Womack reached on a fielder’s choice and scored Ball. The Ball run was the Saints final run in the game. The final score was Saints 7 Tigers 17.

Presentation College will wrap their season like they have every series this spring on the road. They will be playing Saturday and Sunday this week in Dickinson, N.D. They will be taking on Dickinson State University with the Saints celebrating their final senior day on Saturday.
