Saints Softball Weekend Recap

McPherson, KS (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation College Saints softball team traveled to McPherson Kansas to take part in the two day McPherson College Classic. The Saints matched up with the Valor of Evangel University in game one.  The Saints fell to Valor today in game one of the Classic for them by a score of 8-11. The Saints are now 3 – 6 overall.

In the first inning the Saints got off to a hot start when Cassy Loa (JR/San Diego, CA) started the game off with a single. Breanna Dunn (JR/Valley Springs, CA) then reached base on a bunt and advanced to second on an error with Loa getting to third base. Camille Vestal (JR/Madera, CA) then walked to load the bases. Sarah Shevenell (JR/Madera, CA) struck out swinging for the first out of the inning for the Saints. Bella Pinotti (JR/Las Vegas, NV) then singled to center field driving in Loa and Dunn. Isabella Proctor (FR/San Tan Valley, AZ) reached base on a fielder’s choice. Yulissa Pena (SR/Palmdale, CA) then singled for another Saints RBI with Pinotti scoring. To finish the inning and scoring for the Saints Proctor scored before Pena was picked off going for second base. In the bottom of the inning Evangel then put up four runs to tie the game after one.

The Saints went down quickly in the second inning. Evangel then added another five runs in the bottom of the second. In the third inning both teams did not score. In the fourth inning Yulissa Pena then reached based on a single but was picked off trying to steal second. Chloe Dominger (JR/Grant Pass, OR) then grounded out. Sydney Carter (FR/Sacramento, CA) singled on the right side of the infield. Cassy Loa doubled to left center field scoring Carter. Breanna Dunn then flied out to end the inning. In the bottom half of the inning Evangel scored again holding on to their five run lead after four innings.

The Saints went down in order in the fifth inning. Evangel scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the sixth Isabella Proctor led off with a single to center field. Yulissa Pena singled to shortstop. Chloe Dominger then doubled scoring Proctor. Sydney Carter flew out to left field. Cassy Loa reached first on an error and both Pena and Dominger scored on the error. Loa got caught stealing second and Breanna Dunn got hit by a pitch then left first early for the final out of the sixth. The Saints held Evangel scoreless in the bottom of the sixth. The Saints went down in the order in the top of the seventh to finish the game by a score of Saints 8 Valor 11.

McPherson KS (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation College Saints took on the 10th ranked Wildcats of Baker University in their second game of the McPherson College Classic this afternoon. The Saints dropped their second game in the McPherson College Classic to the Wildcats by a score of 1 – 12 in six innings today. The Saints are now 3 – 7 on the season.

The Saints were the home team for this second contest of the day. The Wildcats got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the first to start the contest. The Saints got a lone hit off of the bat of Cassy Loa (JR/San Diego, CA) in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams went three up three down in the second inning. The Wildcats were able to get one run in the third inning. Yulissa Pena (SR/Palmdale, CA) led off with a single in the third. Chloe Dominger (JR/Grant Pass, OR) struck out. Victoria Vau (SR/Ukiah, CA) had an infield single. Cassy Loa reached base by an error to load the bases up for the Saints. Unfortunately for the Saints both Breanna Dunn (JR/Valley Springs, CA) and Camille Vestal (JR/Madera, CA) got out leaving the bases full of Saints. After three innings the Saints were down by three runs.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard again in the fourth inning with a single run. In the Saints half of the inning Bella Pinotti (JR/Las Vegas, NV) had a single but that was the only offense the Saints could muster in the fourth. The Wildcats scored another three runs in the fifth inning. For the second straight inning the Saints only got a single this time off of the bat of Cassy Loa. In the sixth inning Baker scored five runs. Camille Vestal led off with a double for the Saints in the sixth inning. Katie Hanson (FR/Jasper, MN) struck out. Bella Pinotti singled scoring Vestal. Isabella Proctor (FR/San Tan Valley, AZ) and Yulissa Pena then got the final two outs for the Saints in the inning. The Saints fell to the 10th ranked Wildcats by a score of 1-12 in six innings today.

The Saints started the second day of the tournament like they did the first with Cassy Loa (JR/San Diego, CA) reaching base with a double. Breanna Dunn (JR/Valley Springs, CA) then grounded out advancing Loa to third. Camille Vestal (JR/Madera, CA) struck out swinging. Bella Pinotti (JR/Las Vegas, NV) walked then stole second base. Yulissa Pena (SR/Palmdale, CA) struck out to end any scoring threat the Saints had in the first inning. Lauren Paredes (SR/Moorpark, CA) came in and got the Threshers to go three up three down in the bottom of the first.

The first two Saints went down to strike outs in the second inning before Victoria Vau (SR/Ukiah, CA) delivered a single to left center. Sydney Carter (FR/Sacramento, CA) kept the inning alive for the Saints with a single. Cassy Loa came up to bat and delivered a single to left center scoring Vau. Breanna Dunn then singled to center field scoring Carter. Dunn then stole second base. Camille Vestal popped up to the first baseman ending the Saints half of the second inning. The Threshers loaded the bases in the bottom half of the second but only got two runs out of it to tie the game.

In the Saint third inning Yulissa Pena had a double for the Saints only hit. The Saints limited the Threshers to a single hit in the bottom of the third. The Saints threatened in fourth inning with two hits and a walk but left two runners on base and no runs scored. Bethel took the lead from the Saints in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs. The Saints went down in order in the top of the fifth. The Saints held the Threshers scoreless in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning the Saints went down in order. The Threshers hit a single in the sixth but nothing more. The Saints only reached base after an error in the top of the seventh and fell to the Threshers by a score of 2 – 4.

McPherson, KS (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation College Saints finished there weekend at the McPherson College Classic taking on the 10th ranked Baker University Wildcats this afternoon. The Saints were shutout by the Wildcats for a final score of 0-7. On the season the Saints are now 3-9.

For the second game against the Wildcats of Baker University the Saints were the home team. The Wildcats got a single run off of one hit in the top of the first. The Saints went down in order in the bottom of the first. In the second inning the Wildcats scored five runs in the top of the second inning. Yulissa Pena (SR/Palmdale, CA) singled for the only hit for the Saints in the second inning. In the Wildcat third they left two runners on base and no runs. The Saints went down in order in the third inning.

The Saints held the Wildcats off the scoreboard again in the fourth inning. Camille Vestal (JR/Madera, CA) got a single for the second hit of the game for the Saints in the fourth.  For the third straight inning the Saints kept the Wildcats from scoring. The Saints went down in order in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning the Wildcats plated one run off of two hits and left three runners on base. In the sixth inning Cassy Loa (JR/San Diego, CA) got on with a single and stole second base. This was the only offense the Saints could get going in the inning. The Saints held the Wildcats scoreless for the fourth inning of the day. Bella Pinotti (JR/Las Vegas, NV) got a hit but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. The final score was Saints 0 Wildcats 7.
