Sharon Nikolas, 87

Sharon Lee Nikolas, 87, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Father Greg Tschakert officiating.

A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow Mass at the parish hall.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following the lunch.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 14, at the Schriver’s Memorial Chapel.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at Services will be recorded and posted on Schriver’s website following the service.

Sharon Lee Blondo was born on July 30, 1936, in Aberdeen, SD, to George and Olga (Paulson) Blondo. She was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, attending Aberdeen public schools and graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 1954. During high school, she worked part-time at Woodward Pharmacy and continued to work there while attending the Aberdeen School of Commerce (ASC).

Sharon was honored with the award of “Miss Secretary of 1954” at the ASC. After graduating from ASC, Sharon worked at F.W. Hatterscheidt & Co. for two years, then worked as a secretary at Farmers and Merchants Bank for six years. She then started her career with the Aberdeen School District, where she worked for 17 years and retired in 1991.

On August 8, 1959, Sharon Lee was united in marriage to Henry Joseph Nikolas at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. They made their home together in Aberdeen and brought three beautiful children into the world: Selene, Anthony “Tony,” and Maria. Henry passed away in 2017, and Sharon continued to make Aberdeen her home, eventually moving to Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Sharon was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar Society and enjoyed helping serve at funeral luncheons for many years. She was a past member of the SD Association of Educational Office Personnel, the Nu Phi Mu & Beta Sigma Phi, and the Card Club for 40 years. Sharon also helped part-time for a couple of years with Rideline at the Senior Center.

Sharon spent her free time shopping, enjoying the outdoors, camping, and traveling. She was always very involved with her high school Class Reunion Committee and especially loved making memories and spending time with her family.

Sharon is survived by her children: Selene (Mike) Hove of Palm Harbor, FL, Anthony “Tony” Nikolas of Aberdeen, SD, and Maria (Dr. Greg) Neely of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren: Ann (Matt) Paisner of Seattle WA, Nikolas Hove of Chicago, IL, Alex Nikolas of Aberdeen, SD, and Austin and Arik Nikolas of St. Cloud, MN, Tyler Neely of Sioux Falls, SD, and Taylor Neely of Sioux Falls, SD; one great-granddaughter, Alanna Rae Paisner and one great-grandson Kai David Paisner, both of Seattle, WA; sister, Colleen Callum of Aberdeen, SD; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, George and Olga, and her husband of 57 years, Henry.

The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
