  • On Wednesday from Brookings, the Smittys played in a triangular with perennial power, Rapid City Post 22 & the host squad, the Post 74 Bandits of Brookings and Aberdeen would drop a pair of games to see their four game winning streak come to a close.

 

  • In game one against the Hardhats, the Smittys battled tough, but ultimately fell two runs short, falling 7-5. Both teams had troubles in the field as there was a combined 10 errors, four by Aberdeen & six by Post 22. Drew Salfrank toed the rubber for the Smittys and he pitched six innings and surrendered seven runs, but only one was earned, he also struck out four. At the dish, Casey Vining was 2-4 with an RBI. In the loss, unfortunately the Smittys would leave seven on base in the two run shortcoming.

 

  • In game two, the Smittys just ran into a buzzsaw. Skipper Brandon Kusler said, “they’re a very good team.” Phillip Zens went three innings and surrendered 10 hits, nine runs and all of them were earned; he also walked three and struck out three. The Smittys got their lone run from Casey Eisenbeisz, he was 1-1 and the RBI. In the run rule victory for Brookings, the Smittys offense could only muster up two hits. After the day, the Smittys sit at 10-7 overall and are back in action on Friday as they battle the Jamestown Blues from Fossum Field for a doubleheader at 5 & 7p.
