Wings Open Playoffs At Home Stubbing Toe

ABERDEEN, SD (AberdeenWings.com) –  The Wings dropped game 1 in the best of 5 opening round series of the Robertson Cup Playoffs against the St. Cloud Norsemen on Friday night. The final score was 2-1. Cole Moore was in net and he made 20/22 shots he faced. The Wings had a slow start scoring their lone goal in the third period.

In the first period the Norsemen were able to get on the board twice, as they scored less than a minute and a half into the period. Then five minutes later Kade Peterson got the Norsemen on the board again in a controversial high stick. The Wings headed into the first intermission down 2-0.

The second period was slow moving. Only one penalty which was on the Wings and no goals for either teams. The Wings outshot the Norsemen 8-7 in the period but were not able to get one past the Norsemen’s goaltender.
In the third period the Wings were finally able to break the seal getting on the board with a goal coming from Jordan Ronn 5:46 into the third. After that it was more back and forth. The Norsemen were able to get a penalty shot which Cole Moore denied.

ABERDEEN, SD (AberdeenWings.com) – The Aberdeen Wings dropped game 2 of the first round to the St. Cloud Norsemen 2-0. They now have to battle to get 3 straight wins to make it to the Central Division Championship Series.
The first period there were plenty of turnovers for both teams. The Wings were outshot 8-6 in the period both goaltenders were able to stop all shots they faced. The Wings were able to fight off 2 Norsemen power plays with one of them being a 5 on 3 for a full two minutes leading into the second period.
In the second period the Wings killed the 5 on 3 that started in the first period. Shortly after the Norsemen got back to back goals from Daniels Murnieks giving them the 2-0 lead. That was it for offensive production for the night.
The third period was more back and forth, with plenty of turn overs.  The Wings were able to get 10 shots on net as they held the Norsemen to only 3. St. Cloud was able to hold off the Wings pressure at the end of the game to seal the win and go up in the series 2-0.
The Wings will travel to St. Cloud next Friday for game 3 as it is win or go home from now on in the series. Puck drop will be at 7:15 inside the St. Cloud MAC.
