Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University softball team tallied their seventh NSIC victory of the 2023 season, splitting with Minnesota State on Monday. The Wolves fell in game one, but bounced back in game two with stellar defensive and an impressive pitching performance by Abby Rux. NSU sits 13th in the league standings, heading into the final week of the NSIC regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- The Wolves and Mavericks held each other scoreless through the first two frames with Minnesota State grabbing the lead in the third
- MSU tallied three runs in the third and tacked on a fourth in the following frame
- Northern scored their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth on a single to right by Elly Smith, scoring Avarie Eagle who doubled to right center
- The Wolves tallied six hits in the game and gave up one error defensively, leaving five runners on base through seven innings
- Lexi Chase started for the Wolves and suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs on eight hits with five walks and three strikeouts
- Six offensively players tallied a hit in the contest for NSU, with Eagle, Kyra Knudtson, and Kamdyn Barrientos notching doubles

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Northern was hungry for a win in game two, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning
- Ashley Fauske led off the contest with a single to left and came around to score on Avarie Eagle’s single up the middle
- The Mavericks tied things up in the third, however that didn’t last long
- Alex Arndt led off the bottom of the third with a double to centerfield and came around to score on a muffed sacrifice bunt by MSU second baseman
- Minnesota State knotted the game at two in the fourth and the Wolves were down to their final three frames
- Fauske took the lead for the Wolves in the bottom of the fifth; recording a lead-off single to center and scoring on a single to right by Kyra Knudtson
- Elly Smith tallied a single through the left side on the following at-bat, scoring Liv Richardson for a 4-2 lead
- Abby Rux worked herself out of a few bases loaded jams in her fourth win of the season in the circle
- Rux gave up just one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts
- Fauske led the Wolves offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Arndt recorded the lone extra base hit
