Wolves’ Swimmers Split at SMSU Event

The Northern State swim team split a pair of duals at Saturday afternoons SMSU Tri-Dual, defeating Minnesota Morris (151-50) and falling to Southwest Minnesota State (121-101). The Wolves recorded five individual victories, 13 individual top-3 finishes, and one relay win in the meet. With the win Northern secures a winning record for the season in dual meet action for the first time in program history and adds to a program best with eight dual wins this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Northern State opened the SMSU tri-dual with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the winning team of Maddie GonzalesMayson SheldonLauren Forsyth, and Haley Osborne swam to a time of 1:53.74
  • In the second event of the afternoon, Hannah Rodts earned a runner-up finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:43.67
  • Lilly Grebner recorded Northern’s first individual win of the day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, hitting the wall in a time of 1:58.05
  • NSU notched a pair of top-3 finishes in the 50-yard freestyle as Delaney Ryken (25.43) and Mia Fursedonne (26.62) finished second and third respectively
  • Grebner earned win number two on the day with a first-place finish in the 400-yard IM and a time of 4:49.04; Hannah Kiernan rounded out the top-3 with a time of 4:59.32
  • Forsyth earned her third individual event win of the season with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, hitting the wall in a time of 1:01.41
  • Ryken notched third-place finish with a time of 56.61 in the 100-yard freestyle
  • The trio of Gonzales (1:02.62), Fursedonne (1:04.45), and Georgy Turner (1:07.47) took three of the top-4 places in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing second, third, and fourth respectively
  • Haley Osborne earned her fifth individual event victory of the season with a winning time of 5:28.92 in the 500-yard freestyle
  • Grebner recorded her third victory of the afternoon in the 100-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall in a time of 1:11.27; Sheldon rounded out the top-3 with a time of 1:13.65
  • The Wolves rounded out the tri-dual with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Ryken, Forsyth, Fursedonne, and Osborne swam to a time of 1:43.01
