Federal law may force policies to cover those on autism spectrum

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Federal law may force more insurance policies to cover services for those on the autism spectrum, including adults.

Representative Ryan Cwach of Yankton took part in the Autism Law Forum held in Wyoming last week.

Cwach says there are laws that cover a broad range of mental health issues.

Cwach says the law prohibits many limitations on what insurance policies can cover.

Cwach says there are legal opinions that autism coverage is being limited unlawfully.

Cwach sponsored legislation this year that would have expanded Applied Behavior Analysis for kids on the autism spectrum.
