New text alert service available to Brown County residents

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – There is a new service now available to the residents of the county. Brown County Emergency Management has partnered with South Dakota Helpline Center (211) to provide “Public Impact Text Alerts.”

Individuals can sign up to receive text messages that for things that are impacting the county.

Patti Woods, Assistant Brown County Emergency Manager, said the program started in Sioux Falls and has branched out to other communities.

To receive the service, just text AlertBrown to 85511.

Woods said the texts are not designed to be alerts about upcoming storms, but rather useful information following major events.

Woods said the service is very useful right now for communities like Yankton and Rapid City who are dealing with flood issues following last week’s weather.

There is no cost involved to receive the texts.
