SD Loves Sin- -Sin Taxes That Is

Sioux Falls, SD (KELO.com) – South Dakota profits from sin.

Sin taxes that is.

The financial website 24/7 Wall Street says South Dakota profits the seventh most in the nation.

Nearly five percent of the state budget comes from taxes on booze, tobacco, and the lottery.

The lottery in all its forms brings in over $212 million per year, which is over half of the sin tax total.

No other state in the Midwest or Plains states made the top ten.

Rhode Island was tops at over ten percent of its budget coming from sin taxes.
