SD Retailers dealing with new age limit for purchasing tobacco products

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) – It is likely that most South Dakota retailers don’t know that the age limit for buying tobacco products has already gone up from 18 to 21.

Nathan Sanderson, Executive Director of the South Dakota Retailers Association says that a lot of businesses are only starting to become aware of the law change.

Sanderson says that usually with such law changes, there is a long waiting period, but this time the FDA has ruled that the legislation signed by President Trump just before Christmas became effective immediately.

There will be some confusion out there says Sanderson.

Sanderson says retailers will have to make practical changes, including new signs, and updated training for employees.
