Sirens sound to warn Blunt residents of flood threat

BLUNT, S.D. (KCCR) – The town of Blunt in Hughes County is fighting to keep Medicine Creek out of city limits.  Mayor Bryce Chambers says sirens were sounded late Thursday night to warn residents of the threat

Chambers says they are not ordering mandatory or voluntary evacuations but that could change depending on conditions.

Those in Blunt in need of sandbags can contract Chambers at 280-9326. Over 3,000 sandbag were filled Wednesday with additional sandbags filled on Thursday. Officials said they ran out of sand and were resuming operations at 9:30 this morning. The Areal Flood Warning for North Central Hughes County has been extended until 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
