House Majority clarify the procedure “called to action”

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Republican leadership in the South Dakota House of Representatives says they have addressed an incident that happened on the House floor two weeks ago.  Democratic Representative Kayden Whitman of Sioux Falls brought a bill that would have created a specific penalty for intentionally removing a condom without telling an intimate partner.  The act is known as stealthing.  After Whitman presented her bill Republican Representative Phil Jensen “called the question” a maneuver to invoke an immediate vote on the measure.  At their press conference Thursday, House Minority Leader Oren Lesmeister of Parade followed up on the frustration of the incident from the week before.

On Saturday, House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre says Republican leadership has addressed what happened.

Legislators returned to Pierre Monday to start week eight of the nine-week legislative session.
