MADISON, S.D.(KELO)- They say the Lake County Commission has ignored them for nearly three years…so they’re taking things into their own hands.
Carbon Capture pipeline opponents turned in petitions Froday to force a public vote on regulating CO2 pipelines.
Madison area farmer Aaron Johnson acknowledges this week’s rejection of the last remaining pipeline construction application.
But, he says residents still want zoning protection for the future.
The petition calls for a 15-hundred foot setback of CO2 lines from property lines and homes.
The County Commission will have 60 days to hold a special election on the proposed ordinance after petition signatures are verified.
