ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- The Aberdeen City Council cancelled the work session on Monday addressing license plate readers. Concerns were raised about how these were going to invade the privacy of citizens in the community.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley last week spoke with Aberdeen Mayor Travis Schaunaman who raised those concerns with him.
Jackley is working on legislation looking to address those safeguards.
Jackley was asked to compare body cameras to that of these license plate readers.
Aberdeen Police Chief Tanner Jondahl talked about how body cameras raised concern about privacy when it was introduced back in 2009.
The city of Aberdeen will put a hold on readers for now.
