2 Aberdeen men arrested following high speed chase in Codington County

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG) —  Early Friday morning at 2:27 AM, the Codington County Sheriff’s Office was advised that parole absconder 31-year-old Anthony Alden, of Aberdeen was possibly headed towards Watertown in a stolen vehicle. A Codington County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a Toyota Highlander traveling Southbound on SD Highway 20 near Florence. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle when it began to accelerate and flee at a high rate of speed. The deputy began a pursuit which headed towards the Northwest side of Watertown.  The Watertown Police Department set up spike strips in two locations on the highway and both were successful. As the vehicle slowed it turned into a residential driveway on North Lake Drive and continued into the back yard of a residence where the vehicle came to a stop on the shore of Lake Kampeska. Two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. The driver, 30-year-old Duran American Horse of Aberdeen was apprehended.  American Horse was arrested for Grand Theft, DUI 3rd offense, Aggravated Eluding, Ingesting a Controlled Drug or Substance, Intentional Damage to Property, Obstruction, Speeding, and Reckless Driving. Further charges are pending.

Alden, who was a passenger initially eluded law enforcement, but is now in custody, according to a news release from the Aberdeen Police Department.

The Codington County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to please lock and remove keys from your vehicles.
