ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRAdio)- Northern State University in conjunction with the Northeast United Way are doing their 24th annual Day of Champions coming up on Saturday.  It’s an opportunity for NSU athletes to volunteer their time for the city of Aberdeen and surronding communities.

Communication & Impact Coordinator for United Way of Northeast South Dakota, Angie Cleberg talks about how this started back in 2002.

NSU’s football coach Mike Schmidt talks about how this is an opportunity for NSU athletes to give back to the communities.

Twenty locations will be helped out by the athletes Saturday.  Cleberg talks about how that came about.

Since 2002, over 3400 athletes and members of various coaching staffs have participated.  That accounts for over 2,200 volunteer hours and about $395,000 worth of labor.
