HARTFORD, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 6-week-old boy in southeastern South Dakota died after he was attacked by a dog. The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office says authorities responded to a call in Hartford Thursday and discovered the infant with “several bite wounds.” The child was taken by helicopter to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The dog, a Belgian Malinois, was a family pet, according to the sheriff’s office. It was taken by the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.
