BROOKINGS, S.D.(KJJQ)-The Brookings 911 call center is experiencing an increase in the number of misdials. Many new phones have emergency features that make it very easy to call 911 — often accidentally.

Brookings County Sheriff Marty Stanwick says they have to take 911 calls seriously.

Stanwick says the increase of misdials is becoming overwhelming.

He says accidental callers should not hang up.

Brookings county is averaging 13 accidental calls per day.
