PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- South Dakota’s non-resident pheasant opener this weekend will bring plenty of hunters and dogs to South Dakota. The weather should be great for hunters but could add some stress on your hunting pals.
Dr. Heather Osnes with the Oahe Vet Clinic in Fort Pierre says with above average temperatures expected dogs need to keep hydrated.
She says especially in central South Dakota, hunters need to be aware of the danger to dogs from rattlesnakes.
Rattlesnakes retreat to their dens during cooler weather but could be more active with temps expected to rise this weekend into the upper 60’s and low 70’s.
