HURON, S.D. (WNAX) – The hot and humid conditions this week are pushing air conditioning units into overdrive and that is putting a strain on power producers.
Tom Glanzer with Northwestern Energy says despite that, they haven’t seen a big spike in electricity demand, yet.
Glanzer says they are still well below their all-time power demand.
Glanzer says the power usage and heat do put a strain on their physical system.
Glanzer says they can draw on extra power from their Aberdeen peaking plant and outside suppliers if needed.
Northwestern serves about 80,000 electric customers, mostly in eastern South Dakota.
