Manheim, PA (NSUWolves.com) – The National Wrestling Coaches Association released their 2023-24 preseason team and individual ranks with Northern State University landing at No. 11 as a team with four individual ranked grapplers. The release for the Wolves was highlighted by a preseason No. 1 ranking for 2022-23 All-American Wyatt Turnquist at 149 pounds.
Turnquist went 25-4 overall last season en route to his first All-American performance and a third place finish at the national tournament. He is joined by teammates Devin Bahr, Treyton Cacek, and Cole Huss in the individual national rankings.
Bahr sits at No. 7 at 157 pounds after an 8-6 year in 2022-23 and a trip to the national tournament. Cacek sat out most of the 2022-23 season due to an injury, however, comes in at No. 12 in the 184 pound weight class. The redshirt junior went 11-8 overall in 2021-22 and posted a 2-2 record from the national tournament. Huss rounds out the national rankings for the Wolves in the 197 pound weight class, sitting at No. 7. The Gretna native posted a 15-7 record a season ago, placing eighth at the national tournament for the second All-American honors of his career.
The Wolves kick-off the 2023-24 campaign this Saturday from the Jimmie Open up in Jamestown, North Dakota. Northern then returns home next Thursday for the season dual opener, hosting No. 25 Fort Hays State at 7 p.m. in Wachs Arena.
