PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House State Affairs Committee Monday discussed HB1111 which would make it mandatory for legislators to takes classes on both the U.S. & South Dakota Constitutions.
Prime sponsor of the bill was Representative Carl Perry of Aberdeen.
Perry talks about how officials should take up positions base on the Constitutions.
Perry discuss how this would benefit legislators.
Another supporter of the bill was Rick Weible of Midwest Swamp Watch & led to a contentious exchange between him & House Majority Leader & Chair of the Committee, Representative Will Mortenson of Pierre.
During committee discussion, Representative Rebecca Reimer of Chamberlain explains why she was opposed to the bill.
Representative Roger Chase of Huron motioned to move it to the 41st day.
Representative Rocky Blair of Ideal feels this could become too political.
The committee voted 11-2 to move it to the 41st day effectively killing the bill.
