Records & Champs Crowned For NSU T&F

Mankato, MN (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University track and field teams closed out their season at the NSIC Indoor Championships with five all-conference awards and two NSIC champions. Northern finished meet placing third on the men’s side and sixth for the women.

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Birnir Vagn Finnsson wins the conference title in the heptathlon with 4,983 points; he had marks of  7.13 in the 60m, 6.93m in the long jump, 11.33m in the shotput, 1.92m in the high jump, 8.59 in the 60m hurdles, 3.97m in the pole vault, and 3:05.24 in the 1000m race
  • Josh Martin nabbed a runner-up finish in the one mile event clocking a time of 4:11.21
  • Joel Matehs finished in eighth place in the 60m hurdles with a new personal record of 8.17 seconds
  • Drew Salfrank placed seventh in the 400m finals in a time of 50.16 seconds
  • Dylan Schimke notched second place in the 600m finals finishing in 1:23.61; Carter Dingman placed fifth clocking a time of 1:23.96
  • In the 60m dash Chris Weber placed fourth with a new personal record of 6.85 second and Noah Bayer took eighth in 7.05 seconds
  • Dalton Fleckenstein placed eighth in the 800m finishing in 2:04.94
  • Martin earned another second place finish in the 1000m with a new personal record of 2:30.42
  • Nathan Alto placed fourth in the 3000m distance race in a time of 8:33.97
  • The men’s 4x400m with members Drew SalfrankCarter DingmanDrew Henriksen, and Seth Martens notched fourth place in a time of 3:21.56

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Morgan Sheldon placed sixth in the pentathlon with 3,263 points in total; her marks in the event were 9.29 in the 60m hurdles, 1.58m in the high jump, 10.41m in shot put, 4.79m in long jump, and 2:34.16 in the 800m
  • Kyanna Collymore placed seventh in the 400m finals clocking 58.58 seconds
  • In the women’s 600m race Summer Carlson placed sixth in a time of 1:38.06 followed by Alli Jackson in eighth place with a time of 1:40.15
  • Women’s 4x400m relay took seventh place in a time of 4:01.29 with sprinters Collymore, Jackson, Carlson, and Vanessa Christensen

BEYOND THE RESULTS

  • Third place for the men’s team overall, is the highest they have placed since 2008
  • Birnir Vagn Finnsson is the second athlete to be awarded all-conference honors in the heptathlon ranking him 25th nationally
  • Chris Weber hit the provisional time in the 60m dash
  • Joel Matehs hit the provisional time in the 60m hurdles
  • Josh Martin won two all-conference titles in the 1000m and in the mile. He also hit the provisional time in the mile
  • Dylan Schimke was awarded all-conference in the 600m
  • Men’s distance medley hit the provisional time as well
  • Morgan Sheldon hit provisional with her marks in the pentathlon

The NCAA will release national qualifiers this coming Tuesday, February 27th at 6 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. The National Championships are set for March 8-9 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
