Tribal secretary: Noem ‘not officially banned’ from Yankton Sioux Tribe

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELOLAND) — Courtney Sully, tribal secretary with the Yankton Sioux Tribe, says the tribe has “not officially banned” South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem. Sully clarifies that it’s the tribe’s business and claims committee that supports a ban. This comes amid reporting that the tribe banned the governor.

Sully says a ban would have to come from the tribe’s general council, and this would happen with a vote. That has not happened, she says.

Five tribes with land within South Dakota have decided to ban Noem in 2024: the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe and Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe.
