PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A Huron man started his Memorial Day holiday off on the wrong hoof after getting his fully loaded cattle trailer stuck under the Pierre Railroad viaduct over Pierre Street which doubles as U-S Highways 14 and 83. The semi made it over halfway under the Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern structure before getting wedged. The truck was stuck for nearly an hour before a second cattle trailer arrived to transfer the cargo.
Approximately 10 minutes after the cattle were hauled away a crew from Black Hills Towing freed the rest of the damaged truck and trailer.
Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says the truck’s driver, Terrance Johnson of Huron was given a verbal warning and was not cited for a truck route violation. Northbound Pierre Street was closed for about 90 minutes to let crews clear the crash scene.
