PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- Most of the roof of South Dakota’s State Capitol Building in Pierre– with the exception of the copper dome– is getting replaced this summer and fall.
Leah Haugan (hogen) is the Special Projects Coordinator for the South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources and Administration. She says the current roof is over 45 years old.
Haugan says the entire copper roof will be replaced.
Along with age, Haugan says a July 2023 hail storm did the rest of the damage.
A long reach crane is already in place on the north side of the Capitol building and will be used during the summer-long project. The north entrance of the Capitol building will remain open during the entirety of this project, which is expected to be completed in November 2024.
Built Right Construction & Roofing was hired to do the work.
