ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubcityRadio)- Earlier this week the referendum to repeal SB201 was turned in to the Secretary of State’s office.  The Chairman of the South Dakota Property Rights and Local Control Alliance, Jim Eschenbaum(also Hand County Commissioner) talked about the process how this came about.

One concern was dealing with the deadline to turn the petitions in, Eschenbaum addressed that.

Eschenbaum talks about what he understand what the Secretary of State’s process is to verify the signatures.

Eschenbaum was asked while waiting to see if this does make the ballot, whether SB201 will go into effect on Monday which is July 1st.

Summit Carbon Solutions’ CEO Lee Blank said this week, they plan to submit their application to the South Dakota PUC in July, Eschenbaum reiterate that the repeal doesn’t stop them from going through with that process.

Eschenbaum believes that Summit along with other groups may challenge the signatures.  He believes this confirms that SB201 was beneficial to them.

Eschenbaum was asked if the race for the Presidency will have an impact on the carbon pipeline project.

Eschenbaum wanted to thank everyone involves in getting the signatures needed to try to put this on the ballot.

Eschenbaum estimates about 28,000 signatures were turned in to the South Dakota Secretary of State’s office.

Secretary of State’s Office released the following:

“The Attorney General’s office has notified the sponsors that SB 201 will not go into effect until after our validation is done. If there are not enough valid signatures, it will go into effect. If they do have enough signatures, it will not go into effect but be placed on the general election ballot to be voted on.”
