VERMILLION, S.D.(KXLG)- Jacy Pulse, a senior from the University of South Dakota, kept her Olympic dreams alive on Thursday evening by securing a spot in the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field.

Pulse, representing her home state, from Salem, SD, with a population under 1,500, clocked a time of 56.99 seconds to advance to the next round. This marks her fourth sub-57 second run in the 400-meter hurdles this season.

A two-time All-American for the University of South Dakota, Pulse holds the school record in the event (56.11 seconds) and was named the Summit League Female Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Her journey continues on Saturday, June 29th, when she competes in the semifinals scheduled for 7:41 pm Eastern Time, which will be televised on NBC.

South Dakota is well-represented in these trials. Alumnus Chris Nilsen already secured his spot on Team USA last weekend in the men’s pole vault, earning a berth in his second consecutive Olympics after a silver medal performance in Tokyo. Another Coyote, Emily Grove, will compete in the women’s pole vault qualifying round tomorrow, with the final set for Sunday.
