SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- It will create a 176-million dollar hole in the state budget.
That’s how much revenue is generated by the state sales tax on food.
Initiated Measure 28 would repeal that tax.
Opponents, like Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, say it could lead to a state income tax to replace the revenue.
The Mayor says it would also leave cities and local governments in a tough spot.
Sponsors of the repeal say they’re not surprised by the opposition.
