Watertown man arrested for assaulting juveniles with toy guns

WATERTOWN, S.D.(Press Release)-  A Watertown man is facing charges of Simple Assault and Petty Theft following an incident involving juveniles on Tuesday, July 9th.

According to the Watertown Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault in Northeast Watertown at approximately 11:30 am. Dispatch relayed that a male passenger in an SUV had allegedly assaulted two juveniles and taken their toy guns.

Upon arrival, officers identified the suspect as 47-year-old Travis Hansen of Watertown. Their investigation revealed that the two juveniles were playing outside with water-pellet shooting toy guns when Hansen, who was a passenger in a passing vehicle, was struck by a pellet.

Police reports indicate Hansen exited the car, placed one of the juveniles in a headlock, causing injury, and took possession of both toy guns. The report further details threats made by Hansen towards the juveniles.

Following the investigation, Hansen was arrested and charged with Simple Assault, a Class 1 Misdemeanor, and Petty Theft, also a Class 1 Misdemeanor, in South Dakota. He was transported to the Codington County Detention Center before being released on a personal recognizance bond.
